In my second year of grad school, I took a video production class. Since I didn’t have much experience with the medium, it was important to me that I develop some skills in that area to improve as a journalist. Our final exam for the class was a 4-minute video that could address some kind of local environmental issue. When a local community center reached out to me about doing a video for their after school program, I saw this as a great opportunity. I ended up doing my final about the disparities of access to green space in Madison and a local effort to close those access gaps. You can watch it here:

Shortly after making the above video, the woman I’d interviewed for it, Deborah Crabtree, emailed me to ask if I’d be willing to make another video about another project at the Goodman Center that focused on increasing access to art in their after-school program. I jumped at the opportunity. Below is the result of those efforts:
